Her very first baby (Gailey is 18) was born this morning at 8:30 am. A little filly, and she is beautiful. Here are some pictures taken when she was an hour old. I just got a new camera and am having a bit of a problem figuring it out, hence the spots on the pics. I hope you enjoy them.
Gailey is a Hanoverian mare and the daddy is a Dutch stallion named UB-40.
D'awwww! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet. Filly looks like mama, too.
ReplyDeleteJust adorable - thank you so much for sharing these - what a day brightener!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. I hope the filly is like mama. She is such a wonderful horse and a joy to ride.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteMy question is how was the birth for mama?
Thank you, Jami. It's amazing that first-time mom Gailey -- at 18-- seems so calm and peaceful and suited to being a mother.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the new baby!
Awww!!! Congratulations! :D

ReplyDeleteLovely!! Such a nice thing to happen! I'm really happy for you, Jami. Miss you!!

As far as the birth, Gailey didn't give them any "notice." She just laid down and had the baby. The barn manager was in a panic because he didn't get a chance to put straw down or take off her blanket or anything. It was a quick, easy birth. Thank goodness. It's her first and last baby. Carrying it was really hard on her already messed up hind legs. I was really concerned about how she'd come out of it, but she looks better than she's looked in over a year.
ReplyDeleteYes, she was very calm and mellow. I thought she might be a protective mother, but she wasn't. She was very attentive though, never let the baby get more than 3 feet away from her.
Oh Jami, She is gorgeous and Gayley looks like a great mom. I have always been partial to chestnuts and her star is perfect. You are going to have so much fun watching her grow up.
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures! Lovely of you to share. Btw I have just nominated Equestrian Ink for the Versatile Blogger Award – here is the link.)
